Type of play: Tragedy
Setting
The setting of the play takes place in The Middle Ages (the eleventh century) in Scotland, in Macbeth's castle. This is where Duncan was murdered by Macbeth.
Macbeth tells of a man named Macbeth who, with his good friend Banquo, meets three witches who tell him his future is to become Thane of Cawdor and then king. They tell Banquo he will be the father of kings. Suprisingly, Macbeth shortly becomes Thane of Cawdor. This leads Macbeth to believe he is to be king, and the only way that could happen is if the current king, King Duncan, was to die. Therefore, with much help and motivation from his wife, Macbeth killed King Duncan and became king. Then, Macbeth remembered what the witches had said about Banquo, and sent murderers to kill he and his son. They sucessfully killed Banquo, but his son, Fleance escaped and fled.
