MACBETH- From the beginning of the book Macbeth is Thane of Glamis, and then he is given the title Thane of Cawdor. He secretly murders King Duncan in order to gain the title King of Scotland. Then, he is so desperate to keep the royal title in his family, that he has murders kill his own best friend (Banquo) to ensure that Banquo's prophesy will not follow through.

LADY MACBETH- When it comes down to it, Lady Macbeth is as responsible for King Duncan's death as her husband is. After seeing the opportunity, she persuaded her husband with taunting. After she had Macbeth convinced, she spiked the guards drinks so that they would pass out, then after Macbeth killed the king she placed the bloody daggers on the guards and smeared blood on them, framing them.
BANQUO- After finding out his fate is to be the father of kings, that is, that his next generation will be the king, he is murdered by men who where sent out by Macbeth (Banquo's "best friend") to kill him. His ghost later haunts Macbeth.
DUNCAN- King of Scotland, admired Macbeth and Banquo and crowned Macbeth Thane of Glamis and Cawdor. Shortly after naming Macbeth Thane of Cawdor, he was unexpectedly murdered by Macbeth, so that Macbeth could take the title as King of Scotland.
FLEANCE- Son of Banquo, Fleance was expected by Macbeth to somehow take the right as king away from Macbeth. Therefore, Macbeth sent murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance. Fleance escaped the murderers and fled.
DONALBAIN AND MALCOLM- King Duncan's sons. After the death of their father they fled in fear of being held accountable. Donalbain fled to Ireland, while Malcolm fled to England and formed an army to stop Macbeth's reign.
